What's the Rent was created as a response to a tenant being severely mistreated by a large corporate landlord. Instead of doing the right thing, the landlord decided to dig their heels in and avoid their legal responsibilities. Through this terrible experience and ensuing research, it became very apparent that there is a signifcant need for transparency in the residential rental market. Everyone should have the opportunity to make fully informed decisions, especially without any outside pressure or less than ethical practices that some landlords choose to utilize.
